Feedback on Admission Interview and Educational Approach
I am writing following the admission interview held for entry into 6ème at Blanche de Castille.
I would like to express both my concern and my surprise regarding how this meeting was conducted, as well as the pedagogical approach it reflects.
To attend this interview, my child had to miss half a day of school and I took half a day of leave from work. Given this commitment, I expected a minimum level of preparation and engagement from the school.
During the meeting, the Directrice asked for the report card of previous years , although it had already been submitted along with the motivation letter( she mentioned i see only english school report ). This suggested that the dossier had not been reviewed in advance, despite being sent in October. if you even think something was missing , we should be asked before , which is the reason we submit the dossier in advance and not come with printed papers .
More importantly, the Directrice concluded that my child “does not fit” the school without asking her any questions( really 0 questions asked ). It was only after I asked whether she wished to speak with my child that she posed a single question about homework. she then reiterated that my child would not be able to cope.
This raises a fundamental question: on what basis can such a decision be made without any actual evaluation or interaction with the student? She basically wasted everybody's time for her lack of preparation .
Additionally, communicating this conclusion directly in front of a young child was discouraging and inappropriate.
I fully respect that admission decisions are selective and i am glad my daughter dint make to this school . However, I believe the process should reflect fairness, preparation, and a minimum standard of respect for both the child and the family.
Adding to it She arrived 15 mins late and finished the interview in 2 mins.
