We visited before the main season, which meant we could really enjoy the facilities without the usual crowds. My daughter absolutely loved the water park, and my wife had a great time at the spa ? a peaceful, adults?only area located at the lower end of the campsite. These features are genuinely excellent and easily deserve five stars, and I can highly recommend them.

However, we travelled with our campervan, and this is where the experience was disappointing. The site is roughly 95% bungalows and fixed chalets, all of which look very nice. The campervan pitches, on the other hand, feel like an afterthought. They are positioned along the outer wall, where there is quite a lot of road noise.

To be fair, the size of our pitch was very good, and the terraced walls gave us a nice sense of privacy ? especially helpful as we were travelling with two dogs. That part worked really well.

But beyond that, the camping facilities themselves are more in the two?star range. The toilet blocks are quite a distance from the camping pitches, and washing up is awkward ? we were told to wash up directly on our pitch. There was a water supply and even a fridge, but no drain, which made things unnecessarily difficult.

For dog owners, the site is also not particularly practical. There is no designated dog?walking area, and because the campsite is surrounded by main roads, it?s not easy or pleasant to walk dogs outside the grounds. The result is predictable: if you look closely, you can find evidence of dog walkers in almost every bush (we, of course, had bags with us). In summer, it must be unpleasant, as dogs have to relieve themselves somewhere.

And one final plea: please, please stop playing Norah Jones on a 24?hour loop in the toilet blocks. By the time we left, we were all completely ?Norah?d out?. It has now become a family saying ? if someone needs the toilet, they?re ?going for a Norah?.

In summary: the big investment areas ? the water park, spa, and general facilities ? are fantastic and genuinely impressive. But it?s a pity that the simple, easy?to?fix basics you expect at any campsite are overlooked. With a little attention to the camping area, this could be a truly outstanding site for everyone, not just those in bungalows and chalets.
